About Museum Room:
I co-founded Museum Room with Ms. Xiumay Li in 2021, sparked by a vision to reimagine how art and life intertwine.
Tucked in the coastal city of Rizhao and spread across 20 acres of land, Museum Room is a living platform for slow curation — a place where stories are gathered gently, objects breathe, and time takes its time. The project unfolds across five interconnected “rooms”:
- Cafe Room: a 'museumy' café where personally collected objects quietly speak to visitors over coffee;
- Guest Room: a 20-room boutique hotel that invites people to sleep amidst stories;
- Kiln Room: a ceramicist’s studio, equipped with wood, gas, and electric kilns;
- Wood Room: a full wood studio that doubles as a furniture factory, where sawdust meets sculpture;
- Studio Room: a versatile gathering space for workshops, talks, and serendipitous exchange.
Together, these spaces form a porous ecosystem — part museum, part artist residency, part maker’s lab, part library — welcoming both the curious and the committed.
We work hand-in-hand with local schools, artists, and literary communities to co-create exhibitions, workshops, seminars, and performances that bring contemporary art and heritage into conversation.
Still young, Museum Room holds big dreams: to become a furnace of creativity — where local culture fuels contemporary practice, and where the lines between art, craft, and daily life are beautifully blurred. It is a place in motion — constantly evolving, expanding its programs and deepening its roots in the community with each passing season.
